ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of this book was when Samuel stole baby Virginia and took her to Point Comfort. If I was Samuel, I would not have stole Baby Virginia. I really liked this book. I loved seeing how the colony served the winters and how they gained.
Sam is a Christian boy with a loving heart that changed throughout the book. If I had been alive back then I would have definitely been his friend. We could talk about things and help each other.
JOHN LADEN MARRIES ANN BURROUGHS.
I was surprised to learn that they were starving so bad they dug up graves and ate the bodies. I also learned that the first baby born in Virginia was a baby girl they named Virginia. Another thing I learned that Pocohantas was the daughter of Chief Powhattan and she was not in line for the thrown.
They traveled along the river and had a lot of deaths blood shed, but I have named the book something else!

Personally my favorite part of this book is when Sam stole Virginia and went to point comfort. It made me believe that if you do your choices out of heart they are usally right. If I was Samuel I would like alot more people, trust more people at least. I would make peoples life a little easier than before. If there was a scale for this book I would choose two hundred. This book was on top I didn't have to check in the dictionary to find words. I would make this book one of the best I have ever read. Sam( the main character) always finds a way to interest me even if its choping wood there is always something interesting. I would love to be Sam's friend to help him out and to know I have a allie. Perfect Paradise. Three things I have learned about James town is the economy and the Indains and the people.
Blood on the river is my favorite book,it was amazing. Its the best yet. Anyway my favorite part of the book is the afterwards it tells you all that happens afterthe book. If i were samuel i would not change a thng it was awsome it all came together perfectly. Idid not like the book i loved it it was just all perfect. I think sam is the kind of personwho you dont want to get in a fight with so i would be his friend also i would be his friend because he seems nice later in the story. A headline about jamestown featured in enfgland hmmmmmm... i think it would be(READ ABOUT THE MOUNTIN OF GOLD!).3 things i learned would be that when they came pocahontas was only 7 or some age around that. the seconde thing that i learned is that they ate dead bodys because they were so hungry. The third thing is that four boys sam,james,natheniel, and richard. I think the book should have at least told how the indains torterd captin ratcliff

I loved this book it is now one of my favorites! My favorite pat was when Ann had baby Virginia. If I was Samuel I would change the way I acted upon everyone and if I could change everything Reverend Hunt wouldn’t have died and Captain Smith wouldn’t have left. I loved this book because everything that happened was so interesting and it’s hard to believe that it actually happened. Sam is the kind of person that now looks out for people he used to be someone that picked fights. I would want o be his friend either way he was (but not get on his nerves) because he was nice just not always so kind all the time.
INDIANS ATTACK!
Powhatan Indians attack Jamestown there are seventeen injured and one helpless little nine year old boy killed. It happened one night out of the blue arrows shot out of the woods and there was nothing they could do to stop them.
I didn’t know that the Powhatan Indians attacked three times. I didn’t know that there was women there much less children and babies. I didn’t know anyone that was at Jamestown or the three ships they took there. This book was awesome and I would recommend it to people in fifth grade and up.
1.My favorite part of the book was when Samuel had to stay with the indians until Captain Smith got back from the other indian village.
ReplyDelete2.I would have changed that Reverend Hunt did not die he got better and that, Captain Smith does not get the gunpowder blown up on his leg.
3.I loved this book because it has a lot of detail and it is like taking history and making it into a fun story. This book was funny and sad at times.
4.I think Sam is a thief and I would not want to be friends with him, because he stole the locket in England and he stole baby Virgina in Jamestown. Sam lied to Ann and said he was taking baby Virgina on a walk and then he took her!
5. HEADLINE
Many men in Jamestown attacked the indians and killed most all of the indians but in the fight most of the english men were killed by the indians. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW? WILL THE INDIANS PLAN AN ATTACK? YOU WON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU READ THIS BOOK!
6. I learned that the Chesapeake Bay was right up the river from Jamestown.
I did not know that there were indian tribes all around Jamestown.
I also leared that Jamestown was not that big when they first got there but it got bigger as the population grew.

My favorite part of this book is when Smith is going crazy in the head because the people are not listening to him. If I was Samuel in the book I would change, when he says he doesent need anyone I would have gone to the poor house to live happyish. I liked this book because I learned something that could have happend and it was history. I would want to be Sams friend because he just needed somone to talk about his promlems, and I might sit there but that does not mean I would listen. The head line i would have said in a news paper back then would be: INDIANS ATTACKED JAMESTOWN. I did not know the year they attacked was 1607, nor did I know that the ship he was on was the Susan Constant they went on, and I did not know they built a palisay. Smith reminds me of one family members because he knows how to punish well.

The first settlement of jamestown was a hard time and when James died.even when captian smith left James town it was hard for Samuel. Sam was a 10 year old boy and was a orpan on the streets untill he stole a locket from a pawn store. when the colonist sent sam to the indians he was tougth the way of the indians.In the end Ann, John, virginia,and sam then lived in the fort of algernon. questions,1 my favorite time in the book is the part where they are safe in point comfort,2 sam would not be a theft and learned and knew kindness ,3 I really did enjoy the book because sam did try to be friends with James and tried to save him and failed and he tried to save Ann and Virginia to go to point comfort,4 a surviver and i would try to become his friend because we all need friendship to be happy,5 jamestown lives on. Jamestown is still living since 1607 and is a lucky town in this point of view it is amazing how its still alive,6 sam was a real person,he was a town leader, and was a kid when he was first was in Jamestown,7 I do not want to add any thing to this book.

Samuel Collier, a young peasant of England , was caught stealing a locket from a pawn shop and was put in jail. They took him out of his cell and put him in an orphanage run by Reverend Hunt. Reverend Hunt took Samuel to serve page to Captain Smith, and took another boy to serve page to the Reverend to go and take a journey to the New World. You will found out about the ship ride to the New World, and about when and where the settle in. Also some unpredictable deaths happen from the people you least expect to die.
1. My favorite part of the book was when, this might be a little harsh, Captain Newport was tortured to death by the Powhatans. It is because I didn’t like when Captain Newport was willing to kill the most important man on the ship, Captain Smith.
2.I wouldn’t have punched James and teased him before he died, if I was Samuel.
3.I liked the book because it was very, very exciting.
4.Sam is a fighter and want to get things done when people need him to. I would like to be a friends with him, because he is a hard worker, a body guard, and has a funny side to him.
5. Headline- Powhatans Surprise English with a Surprise Attack!
6. I didn’t know , this part is really gross, that some people in Jamestown, during the winter, were so hungry that they actually dug up people's graves and ate their corpse.
7. I would say about this book, that I would rate it a 10 out of 10. One word, AMAZING!

1.My faverite part of the book was when they first got to Jamestown in 1607 and the indains ataked them
2.if I was samule i whould have changed the councal and made Capt.Smith presadint before the gentalmen
3.Yes I liked the book it was the best book that i have ever read I liked it because it was full of actshone and that is why i liked it.
4.Sam is a person that can be nice and sometimes mean.And i whould want to be freinds with him because he is trust worthy and that is why i whould want to be freinds with him.

My favorate part of the book is when he lived with the indeans. I would changed his clothes to the indeans cloths. I did like this book because it had alot of action. Sam is a rough person, but soft and I would want to be his friend because he is also careing. SAVAGE ATTACK!!! I did not know pockahontas was a little girl when she saved captin smith. When we were reading this, I could not wait for the next chaptor!!!!

My favorite part of the book was when Sam and Richard started to become friends.
If i could have changed anything i would've kept captain.Smith at Jamestown.
I loved the book because it was filled with adventure and mystery.
Sam changed from being independent to trusting and a good friend. Yes i would be his friend.
A headline would've been POWHATAN VS. ENGLISH SETTLERS
From BOTR i learned that the English attacked the Powhatan first.I also learned that there's a tween deck on a boat.And finally i learned that people were ranked like gentlemen commeners and peisents.

My favorite part of the book was when sam stole the baby.I would have changed his moto in the beging of the book ...'trust no one.'I loved this book because it has so much detail I could really see pictures of the characters in my head.Sam is a person that never gives up,I would want to be friends with him because he is a leader.'Savages attcked.'would be a headline . I did not no that Jamestown was named after King James.I think this book is amazing.It really tells you about what really happened and how people survived.I would read it over and over again.I rate it a 10 out of 10.

1.my favorite part of the book is when Sam is with the Indian tribe learning how to shoot with arows.
2. That Captain Smith and Richard going to England.
3. I like this book it made be what to read ahead sometimes.
4. Sam pretty smart. I would be friends with him because he is nice and not selfish.
5. Troble in Jamestown. hundereds of pepole are starving and dieing.
6.Pocahonas saved Capt. Smith, Virginia was the first baby born in the settlement,Indians played a game like kickball.

ReplyDeleteMy favroite part of the book was when they when to James Town because they made it like an adventure. I would want to take out all the bloody parts. I like the book i woold rate it 10 out of 10 becaue i kept wanting to go ahead. I would not want to be friends with him in the begining because he got all in fights but then, at the end i would because he learnd that he needed to be nice and not be hateful. If i rote a headline for a news paper it would be what happened in James Town long ago. I did not know that there where any indains in James town before we came to live there. I did not know what was a palacade was and i did not know why indans wear red paint.

1. My favorit part in the story is when Sam meets Kianta and stays in the villedge with him and his tribe.
2. If I was Sam in the story I would not have beaten Richard and James up.
3. I really liked the book because every chapter I read I just wanted to keep reading. I never wanted to stop reading untill the book was finish.
4. I would want to be Sams friend because even though he was really mean at first, after him and Richard became friends he was such a good friend and he was very nice.
5. Tragedy strikes when baby Virginia is stolen from her mom.
6. A palisade was built, Capt. Smiths leg caught on fire, and the first baby in Virginia was named Virginia.
7. I have never read a book as amazing as Blood on the River.

2. If I were Sam and I could change something that happened, I would not have stolen the locket.
3.I loved the book. It was very intersesting and kept me wondering what would happen next and I like that about a book.
4.Sam is the type of person who is not afraid to say or do what he wants and is a fight. I would not want to be friends with him because I would be afraid that if I said one wrong thing he would hurt me.

6.The first born baby in Jamestown was named Virgina. Pokahantas is King Powahten's daughter. And that Captain Newport only had one arm.

My favorite part in blood on the river is when same has to stay in the indan tribe Werowocomoco in chapter twenty-two. I would have asked to stay with the tribe longer so I could learn somemore. I loved this book but it's kind of sad when all of those people died of starvation and Captin Smith got hurt or Revrend Hunt died. Sam is a kind and friendly person he was very helpful and I would like to be friends with him. The Indans Fall, The Indans are Gone!!! Three things I learned in this book Is one, that they did whipe out the indans Two, that Revrend Hunt died and Three, that the people in James Town ate dead people. I love this book and I would sugest you read this book.

my favorite part of blood on the river is when ann burras had her baby vergina.i would have to chandge the part how the women came to jamestown.i loved the book because it had alot of history in it i love history and i love jamestown.sam is a careing kid who cares aboutothers not just himself i would love to be one of sams friends cause he will care about me and i will care about him.a event that would have been featured in an engleash newspaper is cheif powatian chief of the algongquin tribe is crowned prince under king james.i learned three things from blood on the river is one pochahontas did NOT mary captin smith second chief powatian is pochahontass father and therd the three ships names godspeed susan constant and the discovery. and i would rate this book a 20 out of 10 star rateing i love this book

ReplyDeletemy favorite part of the book is where sam trys to still his moms locket back.I would not still the locketand let it stay there so i dont have to go the new world.ilike the book because there were trying to survive on a island. i would be his friend because he is a good person and a good leader.the headline i will write is little boy trys to steal a locket.that there was a new world, indian, or weman going on a boat to the new world. i give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

my faviorte part in this story is: when samuel wanted the girl to come with him and her husband so that she could be safe but she didnt want to because she wanted to stay with some girls so that she wouldnt be the only girl on the ship so he had stole her baby and samuel was about to get punished but he didnt.
ReplyDeletei would have changed samuel into a: very nice boy and very helpful and other. i dont really like books: with fighting and killing and slavery i think that that is really sad for me because i am black and people that were slaves were black so thats why. i would be sams friend: because he is cool.
headline: james town needs food they need to get somthing cool so that they could trade with the indians.
i learnd that it was very hard back then to get everything that they wanted.

It was a really good book and the reason I liked it so much cause I love history.The reason I would be his friend I cause he sounds like someone to trust with your life he keep his word to Capt. Smith and Reven Hunt so he was verey relieable. I would have changed going t Capt. 1. My favorite part of Blood on the River was the part when Samuel thought he was going to get killed because he stole Virginia. I liked it because you didn't really know what was going to happen next, and it kept you guessing.
2. If I was Samuel, I'd change his behavior, he didn't have the BEST behavior but he wasn'treally bad and distructive, but he could have behaved better and maybe he wouldn't be puneshed as much, but I can understand because you're on a boat for a long time with a ton of people in a really small room and you would get really aggravated.
3.Yes I liked the book a lot. It was very interesting to me and I liked it a lot. It was probably one of my favorite books. I liked it because it was based in Virginia and we are a state bordering Virginia so I thought that was pretty cool and also I liked it because it was about how the United States was formed and I like learning about Unites States history.
4. Sam is a person who likes to find adventure and try different things. But he can also be bad, and he can also be good. Yes, I'd like to be a friend with him because he seems like he would sometimes be a good friend but other times maybe use you or be mean to you. But I think he has gotten to be a better friend since the beginning of the book.
5. The headline I would make would say "ENGLISH SETTLERS IN JAMESTOWN, VIRGINIA IN WAR WITH NATIVES." Then I'd write about how the fights got started and how many died.
6. 3 things I learned in Blood on the River are 1, The real story of Pochahontas, and what she really did, and what she did in movies weren't true. 2, That we still speak some Algonquian language just like the Algonquian people used too. 3, The first baby born was born from the Settlers.
When Smith became captain and Newport was arrested then sent back to England. I liked it becouse it explained things differently and you could imagine what was really going on. Sam is a secret kind of person he lost his family he doesn't live like other people. I wouldn't becouse he fights and isn't a fast making friend kind of person.

Ships sailed to Jamestown carring about 4 hundred 73 men and only after a few days war started then the best men still alive were forced to live down river somewhere much more safe.
Everything I only knew where it was ( Jamestown ). Three main things would be different Indian tribes, the names of the ships and all the adventure, sadness, worries, last but not least the people. I hope you will read this book it's great I'd give it four and a half stars.

3.I realy liked this book because it gave me alot of info. of Jamestown in 1607 and on.
4.Sam is nice and he can be mean I think I would be friends with Sam because he does not have alot of friendsand I would feel bad for him because his mum died.
5. I think it would be Jamestown 1607 Big Attack.
6.I did not know they had palsides and I did not know what they looked like and I did not know that Ann had the first baby in jamestown and that Samuel Collier was a real boy and he lived in Jamestown.

I read Blood On the River with my class and this was a very good book. (1.)My favorite part of this book was when peace is made between the indians and the colonists. (2.)If I was Samuel I would have changed the relationships of everyone including, the Gentlemen, the Indians , and the Comoners. (3.)I loved this book at first I thought it was going to be boring with all the history but I started getting very juciy and interesting, I give this book ***** (5 stars). (4.)At the begining Sam wasn't the nicest/kindest person on board but after Capt.Smith and James died He was begining to be a really good person and very nice to most of everyone. I would say Sam is a pretty good person, I would definatly recomend being one of his friends. (6.)Today, on the Virgina news the indians have attacked and killed alot of the colonist in revenge of the new comers killing the indians and burning down their forts. (7.)There things I didn't know about Jamestown that I leaned in this story was, that their were many people who came from London to help start the settlement of James town. I did not know that there were only 3 ships taking all the people to Virgina and using those 3 ship to leave and return. The last thing I did not know was that the Indians first started in Virgina then the Colonists took over. (7.)I would really recomend this book to all 5th graders who like history and reading. :)

My favorite part of the book: Samuel was at the Indian tribe and learnned how to hunt, plant corn and beans from Kiaita.
I would have changed the story if I were Samuel: I would not let James have been killed by the Indians. I would have let Samuel, Richard and James become friends.
I did like the book. It had lots of action and fights between the Indians and the colonists. I liked how they discribed Jamestown.
I think Samuel was a bad person in the beginning of the story but aws the story went on he was a good person. I would like to be Samuels friend. I would want to be his friend because he is tough and knows how to take care of himself.
Powatan Attacks the English!!
Three things about Jamestown I did not know . I learned Pocahontus and John Smith did not get married. Gentlemen ment you were rich. Captain Radcliff did not like John Smith.
Samule became a carpenter in Jamestown. Richard and Capt Smith went back to England. Capt Radcliff died. Chief Powatan dies and his brother takes over the Powatan Indians. Pochahontus is Chief Powatans favorite daughter.
My favorite part of the story is, when Samuel goes and lives with the indians for a while. If I were Samuel I wouldn't have changed a thing. This book was amazing, it was history but interesting. Sam is an amazing person, and i would love to be friends with him because he would do anything to keep you safe. What happened in jamestown should be called Happenings in Virginia. The three things I learned from this book are, what types of indians there are, how Captain Smith thought of the gentlemen, and why he thought of them that way.

my favorite part about this book was when sam stole baby virgina out of love. if i was sam i would have changed how mean he was to james. i loved this book it had history love action and al the stuff that i like in books. sam is a loving and frinly boy. he became frinds with mostly every one he wa snice to Richerd after james died. he was nice and strong and a working boy and i would wan to be his fried. the new comers ruined it for the powtains. i learned that the palisade burnt to the ground. also when they built it the second time it had five sides. i also learned about the prophecy and how the powhatan would win then the powhatan would win again and then they would lose. i really think that this is a good book and i recamind you to read this book because it is very easy to read and it is very hard to put down.

To start off my favorite part of the book was where they found out that Captin Ratcliffe and a couple other men got there throats slit because Captin Ratcliffe was a really mean person. If I was Sameul I would change the amount of food they had to work with. I loved this book and the reason I loved it so much is because it had lots of adventure in it. Also I thought it gave great detail and explained everything. Sam is one of those people where they have a mean side and a nice and caring side. That would be very cool if I could be his friend. There has been a great shotage of food in Jamestown. Donate if you can! I learned that the real people that lived there went through some bad lives. Also I learned that after all they became friends with the Indians. I also learned how bad the ship ride was and the type of things they had to deal with. I would die to own a hardback copy of it. I'm also going to tell my mom all about this wonderful book 1000000000 stars out of 5. GREAT BOOK:):):)$$$

My favorite part in this book is when the english men defeated the indians. If i was Samuel i wouldn't change anything that he did in the story. I liked the book at first but it got boring after a while. Samuel is a brave, adventurous, Risk taking dude. I would like o be a friend of him because he is smart. Two battles lost one won.What a slop bucket is what types of indians there are and what indian words are
my favorite part of the book is when Ann has Virginia. I would have changed that his dad was an alchoholic. Yes because Sam went to a good family. He is a fighter. Im not sure if I would but probably yes because he was mean but he changed. The true story. They had little food, they were servants and there was not a lot of people.

yes i liked the book alot because the indians came, the women came, and i liked it when some of the people died.
sam is a fighting kind of guy. i would not want to be one of his friends. i would not want to be his friend because if i make him mad then he might hurt me.

1. My favorite part in the book was when they were on the ship were people got sick, less food, and no room to move around in.
2. If I was Sam I will change to repect other and not to get in fight.
3. I love this book because it was very exciting to read. I like it when people did there work in the 1600s and the way they made weapons and shot a gun.
4. I think Sam is a really nice person if you really get to know him.I would like to be his friend because Sam is not so boring he want to have fun. So I can work with him and help him so he can trust me.

My favorite part of blood on the river was when Sam was sent to the indian village with Kainta. If I were Samuel I would not have been as mean in the beginning and the whole thing with my parents probably would make me open up to captain Smith more. I liked the book because of all the history and I really like that kind of stuff. Sam in my perspective is the kind of kid who means well and is good by heart but at first could not ''Channel his anger.'' I would be his friend because he does not have anyone he can really talk to or trusts. A headline I would write since they can't say anything bad, we are at peace with the savages! I did not know the names of the ships or the who Samuel Collier was or that the Virginia company sent them for gold. I would rank this a 9 out of 10 because it gave allot of description but not all of the chracters were real.

My favorite part of the book was when Sam decided he would want to be friends with Richard, If I was Sam I would choose to try to control my anger better, I liked the book, because the author had different resources to choose from and she chose from only one resource, She made the book very interesting! Sam is a mean sided person and I would like to be friends with Sam because we are alot alike, My headline would be Indian vs Colonists, I learned that the Indians didn't like the colonists, the Indians finally became friends with them, then didn't like them. Pochahontas was just doing a play when she saved Captain John Smith's life

My favorite part of the book was when Samuel had to stay with kianta and he got to learn alot of cool things. Iwould have changed that when he lived in london try to find a nicer place than the streets. I did like the book but it was very informational and old timey so at times i got bored but when it was getting more into it i liked it. I would want to be his friend to help him and give him reasoures . The Daughters Chief visted Jamstown. The diffrent ships and captins, how much they stuggled and the diffrent indian tribes. I would give this book **** stars

ReplyDeleteArthur:Elisa Carbone.My favorite part in the book is when Sam learned to us a sward and pretended to kill Captain.Smith.If i was Sam in the book i would change the part ware James died.The reason why i liked the book so much is because its so exiting and surprising it takes you on a wild journey through James town it feels as if your right there with Sam.Sam is a loving person but can also be mean he has a good heart and means well but it does not always seem that way.i would want to be friends with Sam because he seems good hearted and nice....When you get to know him.If they were in England and this happened to them it would be in the news don't you think?if it was here is what it would probably look like this WHEN INDIAN'S ATTACK!!!!.i learned a lot when i read this hears one, i did not know that Pocahontas saved Captain Smith.if i could rate this book i would give it a 5 star rating.

My favorite part of the book is when they reach Virginaand settle there.I think sam should have when back to England with Capt.Smith and Richard.I liked the book so much beacause every chapter is packed with extcitment.Sam is a figthing, caring and nice type or boy thorugth out the book.I whould like to friends with sam because he is protective guy.If I worked in the newspaper my headline whould be "TROBLE IN JAMESTOWN".Three things I did not know was indains attacked them,There was a point Comfort and there was a baby born in Jamestown.I whould give this book a 5 star rating out of 5 it was a wonderful book.

This book is about this kid who is caught stelling stuff and is to become a servent. His name is Sam .When he becomes the servent he meets Revernd hunt, Capt.Smith,Richerd and James. When they find virginia the indians atack and james is killed.The all get really sick.The are so hungryand so cold.Revernd hunt dies pretty soon and he only has Capt Smith but when he is shoot he has to go back to england and richerd goes back to england with him.Now Sam has no onn left and is all alone.I give this book a 10 because its such a great book and it will really open your heart.

My favorite part on the blood on the river book was when Captin Smith and Sam and a couple of other men go over to the powatan tribe to give him a crown and Chief Powhatan was pretending not to understand and play a prank not to get crowned. I would have changed that they shouldn't have traded with the tribe that had killed James. I had loved this book because of all the excitment happenning during fights with tribes. Sam is a very kind, honest man and I really would not be his friend because he is proboaly all dirty and not clean when living in villige. For a headline for the newspaper I would have put the ever lasting tribe in Jamestown. From Blood on the river I had learned that they had built a fort to pretect them which was called palisades, they live in straw houses, and they did not have alot of clothing to wear.
I thought this book was very good so I'm going to give this book a 10 out of 10 because of the excitment happenning tin the chapters.
